XLS (Microsoft Excel बाइनरी स्प्रेडशीट)
XLS Microsoft Excel का मूल बाइनरी फ़ॉर्मेट है (1987-2007)। यह 65,536 पंक्तियों और 256 कॉलम वाला BIFF स्ट्रक्चर इस्तेमाल करता है। XLS लीगेसी सिस्टम में मिलता है लेकिन XLSX ने इसे पूरी तरह पीछे छोड़ दिया है।

XLS BIFF स्ट्रीम्स को OLE2 कम्पाउंड फ़ाइल में स्टोर करता है। Workbook ग्लोबल्स और शीट इंडेक्स Workbook स्ट्रीम में, शीट डेटा सब-स्ट्रीम में रहता है। फ़ॉर्मूला RPN टोकन के रूप में एन्कोड होते हैं।
इतिहास
BIFF2 Excel 2.0 (1987) से शुरू हुआ और BIFF8 (Excel 97) तक विकसित हुआ। Office 2007 के बाद XLS पुराना पड़ गया लेकिन ERP एक्सपोर्ट में अभी भी दिखता है।
